Moringa For Health (MFH) is a registered nongovernmental organization (NGO) with the desire to use their profits with matching grants to help marginalized people create income through small businesses. The successful applicant(s) will work alongside MFH local staff, learning from them and training them so they can improve MFH sales and marketing strategies and teach basic business principles. You will walk alongside three-five small business start-ups that empower local people.

Responsibilities:

• Live among local people to learn the Khmer language and culture while building friendships that lead to regular demonstration and proclamation of the gospel
• Work alongside, learn from, and help increase the capacity of the existing MFH Khmer staff, especially in marketing and as a local NGO (social outreach arm)
• Develop a local staff member to teach others the basics of small business
• Walk alongside local people starting small businesses who have been through the local NGO training process
• Attend a local Khmer Evangelical Church (C&MA) congregation

Required Qualifications:

• A recognized bachelor’s degree
• Two years of community development and/or small-business experience
• Completion of World Perspectives Mission Course or other comparable mission course
• Completion of Alliance Politycourse
• A minimum Modern Language Aptitude Test (MLAT) score of 60 or higher
• Ability to work on a cross-cultural team with existing local Khmer staff

Preferred Qualifications:

• Cross-cultural training or living experience
• Education and/or experience in income generation or small business
• Clear understanding of CAMA’s community development values and principles
• Current involvement in ministry
• Background in adult education, primary health, or marketing

• Ability to articulate personal conversion and call to ministry
• Demonstrated heart for the poor and marginalized (Micah 6:8)
• Theological alignment with The Alliance
• Demonstrated flexibility and grace in all aspects of life
• Vibrant spiritual life

• Ability to learn and recover from failure

Timeline for Deployment:

Summer 2022
Once appointed and fund-raising and other qualifications are met, the appointee is required to attend a cross-cultural and language acquisition program and Pre-Field Orientation prior to deploying.

With a population of 200,000, Battambang is the third-largest city in Cambodia. While it has modern conveniences, it has a small-town atmosphere. A range of housing options—from modern to local—are available. There is electricity, running water, restaurant chains, and a great variety of local restaurants. The people are friendly and have a welcoming posture toward foreigners.

Language Expectations:

Language is an essential part of ministry. Those who do not know the language will receive one month of full-time conversational Khmer language study followed by ongoing half-time language and cultural acquisition for one year while working alongside the Khmer MFH staff. The goal will be to speak, read, and write the local language at a functional level in order to mentor, teach, and train others.

Health Considerations:

There are adequate local private hospitals. For major medical issues or illnesses, traveling three hours to Thailand is usually recommended.

Expectations for Spouse:

Spousal roles vary based on the spouse’s gifts, training, and abilities, as well as the needs of the team. It is expected that both spouses will be meaningfully involved in meeting ministry objectives, depending on the nature of family roles, children’s needs, etc.

Children’s Educational Plan and Options:

Local private schools and homeschooling provide viable options for elementary students. For high school-age children, there are international boarding schools in Thailand or Malaysia.
