There are no churches among the 60,000 Lao who live in Stung Treng province, Cambodia. Be the pioneer to bring Christ’s light to these people who have never had gospel access before. The harvest is ripe, but the Lao people of Cambodia are waiting for a harvester.

Responsibilities:

• Learn the Khmer and Lao languages
• Pioneer evangelism and church planting among the Lao in Stung Treng province, Cambodia
• Partner with locals and the national church network in this work

Required Qualifications:

• A recognized bachelor’s degree
• Completion of at least 30 hours of Bible/theology/ministry and 15 hours of intercultural studies
  • Note: If a couple, one spouse must meet this requirement. It’s preferable that the other spouse holds a recognized bachelor’s degree, has strong ministry experience, and has completed the C&MA Polity course and at least 18 hours of Bible/theology and 15 hours of missions/ministry studies (with a minimum of 6 hours in cross-cultural or missions studies).
• A minimum of two years of successful Alliance Licensed Ministry Experience
• Completion of Alliance ordination/consecration (all single applicants or one partner per couple)
• A minimum Modern Language Aptitude Test (MLAT) score of 75

• Experience in cross-cultural evangelism and discipleship

Timeline for Deployment:

After a year of initial Khmer language study in Phnom Penh, the successful applicant(s) will move to Stung Treng City, the capital of Stung Treng province for Lao language study. Once finished, they will travel to Lao villages in and around the province, working with other like-minded individuals and organizations to accomplish this ministry. There are about 100,000 Lao-speaking people living in Cambodia. Most live in Stung Treng province (60,000) and Ratanakiri province (18,400). An additional 23,000 live in other provinces. There are a few scattered Lao-speaking believers in Cambodian-language churches, but there are no Lao-speaking churches in Stung Treng province. Currently, Lao groups in two villages are open to hearing the gospel.

Language Expectations:

Language is an essential part of ministry. IWs receive two years of intensive language and cultural study. The first year will be studying basic-level Khmer language and the second year will consist of intensive Lao language and cultural study, followed by a year of half-time Lao language study done in the context of ministry. The goal will be to speak, read, and write the language at a fluent level in order to clearly share the good news of Jesus.

Health Considerations:

Good health is required, as Cambodia is part of the developing world.

Expectations for Spouse:

Spousal roles vary based on the spouse’s gifts, training, and abilities, as well as the needs of the team. It is expected that both spouses will be meaningfully involved in meeting ministry objectives, depending on the nature of family roles, children’s needs, etc.

Homeschooling is a viable option for K-12, as well as Dalat International School in Malaysia for middle and high-school students.
